Were the colors you chose taken from the photo e.g. a color picker, or did you try and 'match by eye' the color from the photo? If there were any differences in the way the color is distributed between the original photo and this piece how did you make the decision on where to use one color instead of the gradient that may have been present in the original photo? My reason for asking this question is that I was attempting to see how I could recreate a photograph of a friend of mine but I was having a hard time deciding which color should be dominant in one area of the image as opposed to some other closely related color (especially when it came to skin tones) in order to recreate the "feeling" of the original image. What was your decision process like for choosing the colors you chose for this image in places like the face of the girl, the bars on the doors, and the similarity in background and foreground colors for the floor and store fronts?
I imagine it was the original image that helped deciding between dark and light areas which gives this image a very nice feeling. Thanks for creating this image and for sharing it.
