This is absolutely stunning~~ Everything from the design, the positioning of the birds and the details to the colouring is fabulously combined into an absolutely fantastic piece of art I adore the individuality and personal characteristics to her body, posture and especially her face. She looks unique, realistic and pretty Fantastic job
The details of her dress and armor are gorgeous, and the aura of mysticism and background add to their impact, but what really made me stop and stare was her expression--confidently powerful, benevolent but formidable. I get the sense of looking at a *person*, with a history, and thoughts running behind her eyes even as I watch. That's rare in *any* medium or genre; this is an exceptional piece.
This is indeed the look I wanted Elayne to convey (she is an archmage in AD&D world). The artist read the story of the character and managed to give it life to it. I haven't seen a single friend (who knows the character) saying that it wasn't "perfect" for Elayne.
Why don't you make your own then? It doesn't need to be descriptive, you can make up a symbol or something. Or you can commission somebody on deviantart, there are some who specialize in avatars and in general they're not expensive, often only points.
For me it is not worth all the time and effort to put in on my avatar. It is just a picture of representation of your choice and it doesn't say that much about your real taste and work. So I find it not important to waste money on that luxury. I'm not a digital artist: I don't communicate with that type of medium though I respect those that can. Sometimes I run into something I really like. If I can use the pic for a beautiful avatar it is great, but it is ok if it is not possible; it is not a priority. If I would buy a commission, then I would do that for a full piece, but not for a down-sized picture. The last wanted to charge me 190 bucks... I find that a liiiiittle too expensive. And then there is artist communication: I could never get what I really want in that particular way. My area of strength lies within a different cornerstone of art.
